Means Of Containment Requirements

FEDERAL:
Part 5 of the Consolidated Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regs. covers the means of containment requirements. It includes requirements for selecting and using means of containment [Sec. 5.1]; for standardized means of containment [Sec. 5.2]; safety marks [Sec. 5.3]; loading and securing means of containment [Sec. 5.4]; fi lling limits [Sec. 5.5]; and UN standardized means of containment [Sec. 5.6]. The remaining sections of Part 5 cover the means of containment requirements for specifi c classes of dangerous goods, such as explosives, gases and infectious substances.

ALBERTA: Adopts the federal TDGA means of containment requirements, subject to Sections 3, 4 and 5 [Dangerous Goods Transportation and Handling Regs., Sec. 2(1)]. Sections 3, 4 and 5 impose additional requirements on large containers built before July 1, 1995 [Sec. 184].

BRITISH COLUMBIA: Adopts the federal TDGA regulations as the safety standards and safety marks for containers and packaging [Transport of Dangerous Goods Reg., Sec. 3(b)].

MANITOBA: Adopts the federal TDGA regulations, including the means of containment requirements [Dangerous Goods Handling and Transportation Reg., Sec. 1].

NEW BRUNSWICK: Adopts the provisions of the federal TDGA regulations regarding the safety standards required for containers and packaging and the safety marks to be displayed on such containers and packaging, subject to the Act and this Regulation [General Regulation
